Vol. I · Edition No. 1 Marketing and PR desk

No. 01 Front page

Stories worth the front page.

PICANTI MEDIA GROUP is a marketing and public relations agency for small and mid-sized businesses. We help you work out what is worth saying, say it clearly, and put it in front of the right readers, from your local community to audiences coast to coast.

Honest PR. No promises about headlines. English and French markets welcome.

No. 02 Sections of the paper

Six desks, one front page.

Every business already has a front page. It is written by what customers see, what other people say and what you choose to share, whether you plan it or not. Our work is to make that front page deliberate: clear about who you are, honest about what you do, and interesting enough to be read to the end.

Canada is a wide and varied market. A neighbourhood shop in a prairie town and a growing service firm in a major city have very different readers, and many brands need to speak to English and French audiences at once. We plan with that in mind, whether your audience lives in one community or stretches from coast to coast.

Below is the paper, section by section. Pick one, or combine several into a single plan. None of our work comes with promises about headlines, rankings or returns, because no honest agency can offer them. What we do promise is careful work and plain communication.

Section A · Media

PR and Media Relations

Press releases, media lists, pitches and follow-up, written with respect for the reader's time. We help you decide what is genuinely newsworthy, then approach relevant local, regional and trade outlets in a professional way. Coverage is always the editor's decision, never ours to promise.

Includes Releases / Media lists / Pitching / Briefing notes

Section B · Voice

Brand Storytelling

The few sentences everything else grows from. We help you find your voice, gather your proof and shape a plain-language story your customers can repeat. Messaging that can work in English, in French, or in both.

Includes Messaging guide / Brand story / Tone of voice / Boilerplate

Section C · Features

Content Marketing

Articles, newsletters, web copy and useful guides that give your audience a reason to come back. We build an editorial calendar around your business year, including seasonal peaks, and write in a voice that sounds like you on a good day.

Includes Articles / Newsletters / Web copy / Calendars

Section D · Community

Social Media

Channel planning, content calendars, community replies and simple reporting. We choose the platforms where your audience actually spends time rather than posting everywhere, and we keep the tone consistent and human.

Includes Channel plan / Posting / Replies / Monthly review

Section E · Special edition

Campaign Planning

From a single product launch to a full seasonal push. We set the goal, define the audience, agree the message and choose the channels, then build a timeline and budget you can follow, with an honest review of what worked afterwards.

Includes Campaign brief / Timeline / Channel mix / Review

Section F · Standards

Reputation Support

Communications help for when it matters: holding statements, question-and-answer preparation, review responses and a calm plan for tricky moments. Reputation is built slowly, so we focus on steady, honest communication.

Includes Holding statements / Q&A prep / Review replies

No. 03 From the editor's desk

Attention is borrowed, not owned. We help you tell stories worth the loan.

No. 04 The process

From pitch to print.

  1. STEP 01

    Listen

We start with questions, not pitches. What do you do, who needs to know, and what have you already tried? A short call or a written brief is enough to begin.

  2. STEP 02

    Shape the story

We turn what we have heard into a clear message, a handful of story angles and a plan sized to your budget and timeline. You see it in writing before anything goes out.

  3. STEP 03

    Deliver

We write, schedule and send: releases, pitches, posts and articles. Everything is shared with you for approval first, and follow-up is handled politely and professionally.

  4. STEP 04

    Review and refine

We look at what happened, honestly: what landed, what did not, and what we would change. Then we adjust the plan, or stop if that is the right call.

A note on outcomesWe plan carefully and work hard, but editors, algorithms and audiences make their own decisions. We will never promise coverage, rankings, traffic or returns.

No. 05 The Journal

Notes from the desk.

Craft · Media relations

How to write a press release journalists actually read

Start with the news, not the history of your company. A busy newsroom sees a steady stream of releases, so your first two sentences need to say what has changed, who it matters to and why now. Keep it to one page, put a real contact name and phone number at the bottom, and save the adjectives for someone else. If you cannot state the story in one plain sentence, it is not ready to send.

The quick checklist
  • Lead with the news in the first sentence.
  • Add one short, human quote, not a slogan.
  • Include the local angle: city, region or province.
  • Offer supporting material, such as images or data, on request.
  • Proofread aloud, in each language you publish in.

Planning · Small business

Building a simple PR plan for a small business

A PR plan does not need forty slides. Start with one goal, a short list of audiences and the handful of stories you can honestly tell this season. Place them on a simple calendar, keeping seasonal moments in mind, such as the holiday retail rush or the spring season, and leave room to react when something unexpected happens. Review it every month and drop whatever is not working.

The quick checklist
  • Pick one goal for the next quarter.
  • Name no more than three audiences.
  • Collect five story ideas you can back up.
  • Mark seasonal and local dates on a one-page calendar.
  • Hold a short monthly review and adjust.

Storytelling · Brand

Telling your brand story in one page

Your brand story is not your company's biography. It is a short answer to three questions: who is this for, what problem do you solve, and why should anyone believe you? Write it on a single page, read it aloud, and cut every sentence you would not say to a customer across the counter. If you serve English and French speakers, write the core story first, then adapt it for each audience instead of translating word for word.

The quick checklist
  • Who is it for? Name one real type of customer.
  • What problem do you solve, in plain words?
  • What proof can you share honestly?
  • Cut jargon and anything you would not say aloud.
  • Adapt, do not just translate, for a second language.

No. 06 The Classifieds

Place your brief.

What to include in your brief

  • Who you are and what your business does, in a sentence or two.
  • The goal: what should be different six months from now?
  • Your audience, and where they are: a town, a province or the whole country.
  • Whether you speak to English readers, French readers or both.
  • Key dates, such as launches, seasons or events.
  • A rough monthly budget in Canadian dollars, if you have one.
  • What you have already tried.

Please do not include sensitive personal information, such as health or banking details. You are never asked for payment through this form.

No. 07 Letters page

Questions, answered plainly.

Short, honest answers. If yours is not here, put it in your brief and we will come back to you.

What does PR actually involve?

Public relations is the work of shaping how people understand your organisation, and earning attention rather than buying it. In practice that means finding the stories you can honestly tell, writing them clearly, sharing them with relevant journalists, editors and communities, and answering questions along the way.

It also includes the quieter work: messaging, preparation for interviews, and keeping your public voice consistent across channels.

Can you guarantee media coverage?

No, and nobody honestly can. Editors and journalists decide independently what they publish, and they owe us nothing. Any agency promising a specific placement, ranking or result is promising something it does not control.

What we can do is sharpen your story, find the right angle, prepare good material, approach suitable contacts respectfully and follow up professionally. We will always tell you plainly how things went.

How do budgets and pricing work?

Every brief is different. The budget pills in the form give us a rough monthly range in Canadian dollars, which helps us suggest a realistic scope. After we have read your brief, we send a written proposal with the scope, the fees and any applicable taxes before any work begins.

You are under no obligation to accept it, and there is no charge for sending a brief.

Who sees my details?

Only the PICANTI MEDIA team members handling your request, and the service providers we rely on to run our email and website, who are bound to look after your information properly. We do not sell personal information. Your details are handled in line with applicable Canadian privacy law.

Our Privacy Policy explains this in more detail.

Do you work with businesses in both English and French markets?

Yes. Canada is bilingual in practice, and we plan with that in mind, including for businesses in Quebec, New Brunswick and francophone communities elsewhere. We can help you decide what to write in each language, and what needs to be adapted rather than simply translated.

Where a project needs a specialist translator or legal-grade language review, we will say so at the start.

Can I withdraw my request?

Yes, at any time. Email contact@picantimedia.com and we will stop contacting you about your request and delete your details, unless the law requires us to keep something. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done lawfully before you did so.
